2020 Mazda3 FWD SKYACTIV-G 2.5L 4-CYL w/ VVT

All 2020 Mazda3 models come with the 2.5-liter naturally aspirated i4 SKYACTIV-G engine. This mobile powerplant produces 186 horsepower and 186 lb-ft of torque. It comes with either the six-speed automatic or a six-speed manual, depending on what model you choose. The variable valve timing (VVT) alters valve lift to increase the fuel economy and perform better.

2020 Mazda3 AWD SKYACTIV-G 2.5L 4-CYL w/ VVT & Cylinder Deactivation

You have the option to add all-wheel-drive (AWD) with a SKYACTIV-G 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine. This motor also features variable valve timing (VVT), which is the process of altering the valve lift to improve performance, emissions, and fuel economy. The cylinder deactivation reduces fuel consumption and emissions even further than the standard VVT.

2020 Mazda3 FWD Engine MPG

The 2020 Mazda3 2.5L engine paired with FWD will achieve 26 city/35 highway mpg with a combined rating of 30 mpg. With cylinder-deactivation, the FWD engine boasts 27 city/36 highway mpg and 30 mpg combined making this setup the most fuel-efficient 2020 Mazda3. The FWD engine with cylinder deactivation is only available on the Premium package. The fuel system of each Mazda3 engine is an advanced direct injection system with regular unleaded gasoline being the recommended fuel grade. All 2020 Mazda3 sedans are equipped with an automatic transmission.

2020 Mazda3 AWD Engine MPG

The 2020 Mazda3 engine with AWD drops a little in fuel economy compared to the FWD engine but that's to be expected. The 2020 Mazda3 AWD is rated at 25 city/33 highway mpg with 28 combined mpg. The cylinder deactivation system helps the AWD Mazda3 conserve fuel and reduce emissions by temporarily stopping individual engine cylinders in order to provide an all-terrain capable Mazda3 without sacrificing fuel efficiency.

The 2020 Mazda3 Premium package is the only trim that comes with an optional 6-speed manual transmission. However, the manual transmission is only offered on the hatchback; not offered on the sedan. Other than that, you receive the same 2.5-liter four-cylinder engine but with the added cylinder deactivation system. While FWD is still the standard drivetrain, you can get AWD as well.

2020 Mazda3 Hatchback Engines

Among the AWD compact cars on the market, the 2020 Mazda3 hatchback is one of the only viable options available. This 2020 Mazda hatchback features the same engine as the other models but is available in 3 trim levels instead of 4. This includes the Base, Preferred, and Premium package levels. Fuel economy on a 2020 Mazda3 hatchback is rated at 26 city/35 highway mpg with a combined 30 mpg on FWD. If you prefer AWD, the fuel economy is rated at 24 city/32 highway, with a combined 27 mpg rating. You can opt for the 6-speed manual transmission on the 2020 Mazda3 hatchback but only on the Premium trim. The manual 2020 Mazda3 hatchback will earn you 25 city/35 highway mpg with a combined rating of 29 mpg. There is no manual transmission offered with the AWD engine. No matter which drivetrain or transmission you choose, it's clear that this Mazda3 engine produces maximum power while conserving fuel for an enjoyable and cost-effective ride.
